FAQ’s

Since 1999, Find The Children has offered a unique stranger safety program for free of charge to elementary schools throughout Los Angeles County. To date, we have visited more than 300 elementary schools and educated over 280,000 children about stranger safety. We also provide parent presentations to inform them about keeping children and families safe. These programs are supported by the generosity of our donors.

“Kid Intuition”
Stranger Safety Program for Kids

This program is designed to increase the children’s ability to recognize and avoid potentially dangerous situations. The material is presented in individual classrooms in order to adjust the tone and content for each grade and maturity level. It is NOT playtime for the students, but a valuable life-skill lesson taught in a kid-friendly manner. We aim to empower and educate the students, rather than frighten them. Our trained speakers teach the students of all grades:

  • How to identify a stranger
  • Basic rules for interacting with strangers
  • What to do if you become lost
  • Understanding and listening to your intuition
  • The importance of knowing your full name, parents’ names, phone number and address

For students in grades 4-6, we also introduce basic online safety rules, such as:

  • People you meet online are still strangers
  • Never share personal information online
  • Use safe screen names
  • Never meet an online stranger in person

Our presentations are available in Spanish and English. Each child receives a free activity book in either language which will help reinforce the lessons we teach and facilitate this important discussion with their parents. Teachers will also receive a Lesson Plan packet that explains how to follow-up on these concepts throughout the school year.

Abduction Prevention Program for Parents

Schools which host our “Kid Intuition” program may also host an educational presentation for their students’ parents. Find The Children’s Executive Director educates the parents on:

  • Avoiding child abduction by strangers
  • Avoiding child abduction by family members
  • How to react if your child is abducted or missing
  • The importance of maintaining current photos and documentation of your children

FAQ’s

Frequently Asked Questions About These Programs

      • Can the “Kid Intuition” program be presented as an assembly?
No. Our speakers adjust the tone and content for each grade and maturity level. Also, children pay more attention when they are kept in their regular class group.
      • Do the classes need to go to the auditorium for the presentation?
No! We come to each individual classroom!
      • How long is the presentation?
For grades K – 3, the presentation is 30 minutes and for grades 4-6, the presentation is 40 minutes. Each class is visited once.
      • Do you require any audio/visual equipment?
No! Our speakers bring their own visual aids and use role-playing techniques to reinforce the concepts.
      • Do you give the presentation to Pre-Kindergarten classes?
Unfortunately, no. We have tried in the past, but we find that the Pre-K students don’t quite understand the concepts. But please, encourage your Pre-K teachers to stress to their students the importance of knowing their own full name, parents’ names, address and phone number.
      • Does the teacher need to remain in the classroom during the presentation?
YES!! Our speakers are not certified instructors and it is against the law to leave them alone in your classroom!
      • Who pays for this program?
Our entire organization is supported by the generosity of private donors.
