About Us

Find the Children is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the recovery of missing children and to the prevention of the abuse and endangerment of children. Find the Children assists families searching for missing children by helping them to access local and federal law enforcement, advising them on the appropriate legal documents, and connecting them with other non-profit organizations or community resources that may help them in their search for their children. We educate parents and children on child safety, and work closely and in conjunction with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. We have bilingual volunteers available to work with spanish speaking families. Since 1983, Find the Children has assisted thousands of families by distributing flyers with missing children's pictures on them through our volunteer flyer distribution program and on our stickers which are placed on vending machines. Our photo partner program sends children's pictures to newspapers and periodicals all over the country. One out of seven missing children is found through someone seeing their photo and reporting it to law enforcement. Click here for more information on these programs. We seek to enlighten the media and the public by providing current information concerning the missing children issue, and we support legislation providing positive action to ensure our children's safety.

Find the Children is the coordinating agency for the Child Abduction Task Force, a multi-agency team sponsored by the Inter-Agency Council for Child Abuse and Neglect (ICAN). Participating agencies include, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office, the Los Angeles Police Department, FBI, Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office (Child Abduction Unit), Didi Hirsch Community Mental Health Center, the H.E.L.P. Group and the U.S. Secret Service. To learn more about Find the Children's work with the Los Angeles County Child Abduction Unit, please click here.

The Child Abduction Task Force serves children from Los Angeles County who are recovered from a stranger /non-family or parental abduction and the families with whom they are reunited. The goal of the Task Force is to reduce trauma to children and their families who are victims of abduction by providing an effective, coordinated multi-agency response to child recovery and reunification.

A tribute to our founder Linda Otto

November 19, 2008

Linda Otto Landsburg founded Find the Children 25 years ago. It was the first non-profit charity dedicated to the prevention and recovery of ABDUCTED CHILDREN in the western United States.

Linda was inspired by what she learned during the production of her TV Movie, "Adam", the groundbreaking film which illuminated the unbelievable fact that no public service organization was dedicated to the problem of tracking, finding, and returning abducted children. Linda's depiction of the tragic kidnapping and subsequent murder of ADAM, John and Reve Walsh's 7 year old son bared the need for citizen action.

Find the Children currently has 378 cases of missing children. As the coordinating agency for the ICAN Child Abduction Task Force, we have recovered 102 cases of missing children, which sets a record, this year.

Reuniting abducted children with their families is a delicate and difficult task. A trained therapist is provided by Find the Children to soften the impact for each child brought home. Another facet of our work is a safety program of live presentations that are made at K-6 grades in schools in Los Angeles County. Widely hailed, the program has already been seen by 600,000 children.

To help Find the Children continue its mission, please join in honoring Linda's legacy, by contributing your financial support to Find the Children.

Sincerely,

Alan Landsburg
